Spring Hill is around 75 miles west of Orlando and 40 miles north of Tampa. This area is known as ‘The Nature Coast’ and we call it the ‘real’ Florida. The area has an abundance of sparkling spring fed rivers that meander out to the Gulf of Mexico. The County was originally home to the Seminole Indians but since Hernando De Soto’s landing in the area in 1539 the Indians have long since left the area but their legacy in the place names remains. For example Weeki Wachee which means winding waters is the name of the spring fed river, home to the mermaids.
With the beach just 10 minutes away and plenty of other activities nearby there is so much to do in the area you are sure to want to visit again and again. Local activites include -: Canoeing / Kayaking, Horse Riding, Golfing, Fishing, Shooting, Sailing, Bowling, Cycling, Walking and Skating. There is a great Cinema plenty of shops as well as a number of wonderful shopping malls in the area.
As well as Busch Gardens there are plenty more less well known parks to visit including Big Cat Rescue, Homasassa Springs and of Course Weeki Wachee Springs (home of the mermaids) There are many more places to visit, far too many to list. The local family owned restaurants are excellent as well as many of the fast food and other brands.
